Ultraviolette is backed by TVS Motor Company, this clearly means the electric bike is worthy for attention

Okay, there is an electric bike maker known as Ultraviolette. The company is based in Bangalore. One interesting thing about this manufacturer is that their Headquarter is located just 2.5 Km away from the Ather showroom in the city. Very little was known about the Ultraviolette Automotive until last year when TVS Motor Company invested around Rs 11 Crores in the startup.

Ultraviolette is currently working on its first electric motorcycle which will compete with the likes of KTM 200 Duke, RC 200 and up to some extent Duke 250. The company is aiming to launch an electric bike by the end of this year. The complete technical specifications of the bike are still unknown but here you can read about the Prototype model of the upcoming electric bike from Ultraviolette.

For now, the company is calling their prototype motorcycle as ‘F77’ and one can be sure of the fact that the electric bike will carry a different name when launched. The F77 is being made by keeping 200 to 250 cc petrol powered bikes as a benchmark. The above-said market is currently ruled by KTM’s mad bike Duke 200. There is a video of F77 drag racing with ‘fastest 250cc bike’, which can be a Duke 250. The F77 accelerates faster than the other bike and claims to hit 60 kmph in 3.0 seconds flat.

0-100 comes up in 7.8 seconds, faster than Duke 250

Speaking about the technical specifications, The Ultraviolette F77 is powered by an India made 25 kW motor (33 bhp). The torque at the motor is still unknown but the torque at the rear wheel is 450 Nm. This figure is quite impressive considering the fact that the production bike will weight just 150 Kg. The prototype, on the other hand, weighs 138 Kg.

The prototype F77 achieves a top speed of 142 kmph

The Battery pack, Controller, Battery Management Unit and all other electronics are developed by the Ultraviolette team. The Battery pack can be charged up to 80% in 45 minutes with a fast charger and full charge will come in 70 minutes. However, a conventional home charger will charge in 3.5 to 4 hours. There is no comment from the company about the battery pack capacity, maybe to keep rivals under shadows.

the F77 is said to deliver a ‘real-world’ range of around 150 Km which is pretty good when high motor power is taken into consideration. The prototype, for time being, uses components like USD forks, Tyres, Brakes and Dual Channel ABS from KTM 390 Duke. The final production version will definitely get the same kind of components but from other vendors.

There will be a TFT instrument Cluster with, obviously, smartphone connectivity which is intended to give rider access to information regarding motorcycle status as well as previous ride data. The TFT display will not be a touchscreen unit, but toggling will be done via buttons on the left switchgear, yeah, just like Duke 390. One can choose between three riding modes – Eco, Sports, and, wait for it, Insane.

As understandable, Eco mode will extract the maximum possible range per charge, with limited top speed. The Sports mode will let the bike accelerate hard and achieve a higher top speed. Insane mode, on the other hand, will allow an even higher level of acceleration in short bursts. Short bursts are good as Motor is just an Air-cooled unit.

Okay, now let’s talk about the pricing of this mad electric bike. The company says that they are targeting this bike to the customers who are looking out for 200 to 250 cc performance bikes. These bikes carry a price tag of from Rs 1.8 Lakh to Rs 2.4 Lakh (on-road). We can expect the F77 to be priced around Rs 2 Lakh ex-showroom upon launch which is planned by the end of this year.
