United Motors plans for its own manufacturing facility in Hyderabad
In September 2014, American motorcycle manufacturer United Motors entered into an agreement with Lohia Group. According to the agreement, Lohia Group had to manufacture UM motorcycles and the duo sold the bikes under UM Lohia Two-Wheelers Pvt Ltd (UML). The motorcycles which were on sale till March 2019 are – Renegade Commando, Classic, Mojave, and Sport S.
This important decision is taken due to lack of proper support and availability of spare parts from Lohia Group. The overall quality of UM motorcycles was also very low when compared to the competition. One more important thing to note that none of the companies tried to increase the part quality and launch better bikes for India.

After this, the American bike makers plan to build its own manufacturing facility in Hyderabad. It is not yet known whether UM will do the business alone or will tie-up with some other player in the industry. The brand name United Motors in coming up with is UM+ (why plus for a company name?).
What UM will have to work on is ABS, BS6 compliance engines, superior part quality as well as better consoles. The company was about to launch more products in India but it was not feasible under a dwindling partnership.
UM showcased Duty Ace and Duty S urban cruiser motorcycles which were fitted with 230cc single cylinder engines. Last week few spy shots of 200cc UM Adventure Tourer were taken in some dealer. This makes it clear that UM has serious plans for India, but it has to been seen whether it works out this time or not.
